Doc Straw & the Scarecrows – “Get On By”

/

“Get On By” is an enjoyably twangy track from Doc Straw & the Scarecrows, a Virginian artist crafting a memorable southern-rock sound. Lyrics reaffirm a commitment to remaining strong in tough times, something in which we can all relate. Rousing guitars and harmonica emerge in the song’s second half, providing a richly melodic feeling amidst resonating lyrics like “there ain’t no other choice but to be strong.” The “my soul may hurt,” bridge shows a hooky, escalating effect, capping this stellar track off with strong emotive pull.

Touching on the track’s themes, Mike Straw says the following:

“I wrote this song after getting off of a 3-hour long phone conversation with my sister, Jessica, and a lot of our conversation that evening centered around some of the tougher things in life and how we were dealing with these struggles. If a person lives long enough then at some point they will experience these trying seasons. I’ve learned that it’s important to pay attention during those times because that is when we have some of the best opportunities to grow.”

“Get On By” and other memorable tracks from July can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2020’ Spotify playlist.
