Konicek – “Two By Two”

/

Navigating cohesively from lush folk-centric moments to rousing hook-filled rock, “Two By Two” is full of range and gripping songwriting. The track comes via Konicek, an Ann Arbor-based artist who wrote, produced, and engineered the release. Structurally spirited, an enthusiastic, brass-laden beginning evolves cohesively into a more acoustical, piano-laden folk sound as the vocals emerge. A riveting, rock-forward thump forms quickly thereafter, making the track’s eclectic intentions clear. The title-referencing hook bridges the elements enjoyably, punctuated by the initial brass-forward melody. The folk-friendly bridge, approaching the four-minute mark, is also notable — as is the synth-laden rock that delightfully culminates thereafter. “Two By Two” is an excellent, structurally diverse track from Konicek.

Konicek describes “Two By Two” as an “anthemic song about our culture never being satisfied with what they have.”

“Two By Two” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
