Lew McKenzie – “Masterpiece”

/

The soulful, catching “Masterpiece” is another success from Lew McKenzie, who impressed with the track “Journey” in October. “Masterpiece” infuses soul, funk, pop, and hip-hop with a creative passion, the eclectic stylistic charm ably led by a charismatic vocal lead. In addition to McKenzie’s entrancing vocals throughout, Carmine Mattia contributes a consuming rap section around the mid-point, the heavy bass line and clanging keys providing an ideal backdrop. The synth-laden shimmer around 03:20 also exudes a tender satisfaction, followed by a burst of vibrant energy that recalls classic soul. “Masterpiece” continues to show McKenzie as an artist that’s well worth following.

“Masterpiece” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2021’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Soul.
