Mickey Newball – “Ruby Jean”

“Ruby Jean” is the latest from Mickey Newball, who caught my ear in December with the track “Betting On Bad Weather.” Nostalgic pop charm is abundant throughout “Ruby Jean,” particularly as the heightened-pitch vocals glide amidst the jangly guitar tones, following the initial verses. The subsequent, rock-forward section exudes a timeless charm, leading to an abrupt conclusion. Short yet very sweet, “Ruby Jean” affirms Mickey Newball’s consuming songwriting chops.

“Ruby Jean” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2021’ Spotify playlist.
