Sage of New England – “Encounter with a Guide”

“Encounter with a Guide” is a delightful track from Sage of New England, providing hypnotic enjoyment with a riveting, expansive folk sound. Woodwinds and acoustics assemble a lovely procession, with string-laden work in the mid-point evolving into a satisfying conclusion with a lush touch of bossa nova. The twinkling keys past the one-minute mark mesh beautifully with tender guitars, leading seamlessly back into the emotive “not too late,” vocal. “Encounter with a Guide” places Sage of New England firmly on my radar, with a gorgeous sound steeped in orchestral-laden folk.

The project — based out of NYC and the Catskills — is led by Matthew Hayes Jacobs, alongside producer Justin Tracy.

“Encounter with a Guide” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2021’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk.
