Spencer Thomas Smith – “Blue Like Sky”

///

The twangy “Blue Like Sky” consumes a heartfelt charm, impressing as the first single from Spencer Thomas Smith‘s upcoming EP, Tennessee Mud. The Tennessee native (now based in New Haven, CT) blends emotive vocals, twangy guitars, and warming organs for a memorably soaring sound — aesthetically akin to Cass McCombs and Sturgill Simpson. “Make me feel like the sky,” Smith lets out amidst the expressive guitar accompaniments. “There will be another time.” The vocals range from the suavely understated to emotively escalating, the flourishes of guitars and organs matching accordingly. “Blue Like Sky” plays with honest entrancement throughout.

Smith describes the track as “a love song for anyone who is feeling tired — not tired of the one they love — but rather tired from the world and the only thing that one has left to do is feel.”

“Blue Like Sky” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2021’ Spotify playlist.
