Dakota Theim – “Losing Sleep”

//

A melodic track from Dakota Theim with a retro-pop earning, “Losing Sleep” shows a timeless appeal. Lyrical regrets — “I never meant to make you cry, I never meant to say goodbye,” — ride alongside twangy guitars and a shimmering backing, oozing nostalgia. The fading in and out of the backing shimmer, amidst the tender guitar tones, plays effectively throughout. A bouncy key-laden bridge past the two-minute mark gives off a poppy pulsation reminiscent of Brian Wilson. Insomnia never sounded so good.

Theim says the following about the track:

“I wrote this song during a period where I was having trouble sleeping at night—I remember feeling pretty sleep deprived while writing it. My parents let me turn their living room into my studio where I recorded all the tracks. I played drums, acoustic guitars, all the keyboards and vocals. My bandmate Alex played bass and other bandmate Ben played lead guitar.”

“Losing Sleep” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2021’ Spotify playlist.
