Distant Lovers – “Hills”

/

A nocturnal, driving synth-pop sound leads throughout “Hills,” the final single from Distant Lovers‘ debut EP, Shadowlands, released last week. The project of San Francisco Bay Area-based musician Alex Lasner, Distant Lovers struts an atmospheric sound that also emphasizes stellar hooks. One such hook is the “I’ve lost it all,” vocal emergence past the two-minute mark, thereafter leading into a moody post-punk feeling with the heavy pulsing synth-bass and brooding vocals. Moody synths, atmospheric guitar jangles, and withdrawn vocals concoct a stimulating soundscape on “Hills,” one of many highlights throughout the Shadowlands EP.

Lasner describes “Hills” as “about distraction, uncertainty, loneliness, and ultimately acceptance as a means of moving forward.”
