Walking Eyes – “Take a Breather”

//

A climactic track growing from jangly rock into soaring escalation, “Take a Breather” is a new track from Walking Eyes, comprising Memphis-based musicians and fiancés Sarah Spain (vocals/keys) and Tristan Barton (guitar/bass/arrangements). Synths swell into jangly guitars, giving off a spirited breeziness. Spain’s vocals adjust seamlessly from the brisker, jangly accompaniments and the later theatrics, especially in the second half, when a backing orchestral force conjures a grandiose feel. “Take a Breather” captivates throughout its entire 6+ minutes, serving as an excellent introduction to Walking Eyes.

“‘Take a Breather’ is our first truly collaborative musical work as a couple,” Walking Eyes write. “For this particular song, we were inspired primarily by new-wave artists like Blondie, The Cure, and R.E.M. as well as more contemporary female-fronted indie pop artists like Lush, Alvvays, and Hazel English.”

“Take a Breather” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2021’ Spotify playlist.
