Matt Saxton – “Animal”

A moving track from UK-based artist Matt Saxton, “Animal” rides on warming vocals, a pulsing piano backbone, and eventual dual-vocal effervescence. A wintry retrospection is achieved via lines that reference “the end of Daylight Savings,” and how “the sky has clouded over.” The lyrics resonate especially with those who feel some sadness as the winter season embraces, the “I am just an animal,” line playing with a reassuring scope. A lushly contemplative soundscape is achieved via the crisp production. The track’s pulsing piano-laden steadiness and memorable vocal refrain play memorably throughout “Animal,” the first single from Saxton’s upcoming album, releasing in 2022.

“Animal” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2021’ Spotify playlist.

  1. Very fair review, I think Mike. A strong song, makes me want to hear more of what Matt has to say through his music. A good taster, for the album to come.
