Sam Wright – “Faded”

//

“Faded” is a hazy psychedelic gem from Sam Wright, evolving from mellow hypnotics into a blistering psych-rock fervor. Impressing previously with the tracks “Sand” and “Closer,” the psych-friendly direction of “Faded” succeeds consummately. The introduction is quaintly effective; a suave, thick bass line is joined by dazed vocal delights and lush guitar flourishes. The guitars gradually intensify, emitting a jazzy glow past the two-minute mark as the percussion slightly fades; this section expands seamlessly into the more fervent rock-charged energy, closing the track with fully satiating allure. “Faded” continues to showcase Wright’s talents and evolution as a songwriter.

Wright elaborates further on the track, below:

“‘Faded’ is about the sneaking suspicion that a relationship you’ve shared with someone is slowly dissolving. More so that your presence dwindling, slowly dimming, until out of view.

Lyrically it explores themes of longing and loss. Musically it’s propelled by a driving bass line, a bossa nova style beat, and ethereal guitar and atmospheric vocals.”

“Faded” represents the second single from Wright’s Seasons EP, out later this year, following up 2020’s acclaimed Mirrors EP.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Psychedelic Rock.
