Louisiana-based artist Aries Marquis touts a passionate R&B sound throughout his new album Experience. The opening track, “Dove Across the Ocean,” entrances immediately with its assortment of weightless woodwinds, mellow key-laden pulses, and flourishing vocal emotion. There’s an enjoyable ’90s nostalgia inherent in the track’s sweeping chorus, further exceling on the album’s second track “Nikki,” whose backing vocal additions remind fondly of Dru Hill.
Elsewhere, the pulsing synth-forward “Phases” touts a dance-friendly fervor, showing Marquis’ eclectic reach. “Ghost” also charms with its sporadic keys and seductive vocal lead. Experience provides a quality R&B sound with smooth songwriting abundant throughout.
