Berlue – “trying to tell you”

//

Nashville-based artist Berlue concocts fuzzy ’90s alt-rock nostalgia on their superb new track “trying to tell you.” Its sound reminiscent of Snail Mail, “trying to tell you” grows from acoustical shimmers alongside fragmented guitars as the vocals enter. “I’m getting better, but you still make me mad,” the quaint verses begin with, gearing seamlessly into the distortion-friendly warmness of the chorus thereafter. The title-referencing line plays infectiously here; the various added layers of guitar align with the vocals’ added vigor for a memorable effect. “trying to tell you” enamors with its seamless switching-up between laid-back verses and the nostalgic, buzzing contagiousness of the chorus. I’m excited to hear what’s next from Berlue.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
