Fabels – “Minds”

//

A thought-provoking release spanning from the unsettling to lushly engrossing, Minds is a new album from Fabels, a duo based in Sydney, Australia. The album’s self-titled track, whose music video is above, echoes the beautiful experimentation throughout the album. Initially fragmented vocals swell alongside the rising intensity of guitars, the responsive dual-vocal correspondence past the first-minute turn invigorating with its tonal dynamics, parts Deerhoof and parts Sun City Girls.

Elsewhere on the album, spoken-word entrancement and sleigh-bells permeate throughout “ShereKhan,” reminding aesthetically of Kate Bush’s boldest efforts. Alternatively, on the more serene spectrum, the lush guitar-laden pulsations and dreamy vocals within “Waiting” craft an unmistakable spell. Such eclectic tonal and aesthetic reach are prevalent throughout the impressive Minds.

The album was recorded over three years with Icelandic producer Geir Brillian Gunnarsson. Stream Minds in full, below:
