Skinny Dippers – “Boat On The Water”

//

An entrancing folk track with serene yearning, “Boat On The Water” comes via Skinny Dippers, the Brookyln-based project that impressed in March with the track “Wedding Ring.”

The band describe “Boat On The Water” as “a love letter to long distance relationships. It uses the metaphor of boats being drawn together and pushed apart by currents to describe the ups and downs of being separated from the one you love. It’s a song of yearning and a song about appreciating what you can’t have from a distance, similar to how someone might appreciate a view of the ocean.”

The lush vocal lead and trickling acoustics compel alongside lyrics that convey yearning — “I’ve been searching tirelessly, won’t you come to me?” — while the title-bearing metaphor resonates aptly, as the guitars exude a calming quality reminiscent of gentle waters and ship-rocking. A warming folk production with resonating lyrical wit, “Boat On The Water” is another success from Skinny Dippers.

“Boat On The Water” is from Skinny Dipper’s forthcoming debut album, The Town & The City, releasing in August.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2022’ Spotify playlist.
