“Everything I Never Wanted” is another riveting success from Los Angeles-based duo veronicavon, the project of songwriters Chris Hackman (Human Barbie) and Xuan Nguyen (Xuan). Impressing with the track “Nothing’s for Certain” last year, “Everything I Never Wanted” continues showcasing their penchant for catching pop hooks alongside creative electronic-minded textures.
Nguyen’s ethereal vocals and serene synths are gradually joined by trickling percussive keys, the memorable chorus capped off with a title-referencing charm. Wordless vocal effects consume linger as the spacey synths linger, leading into the “baby, baby, you’ve been creeping,” verses. “Everything I Never Wanted” enamors with its dreamy production and delicately memorable vocal performance.
