BREGN – “Summertime”

The reposeful “Summertime” is an enamoring new track from BREGN, an artist from Aarhus, Denmark. The project of singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jonas Mikkelsen, BREGN casts a calming spell throughout “Summertime,” which follows up the indie-folk lullaby “Dreaming.”

“This song is dedicated to people with summertime sadness,” Mikkelsen says. “Despite the pain you want to be loved anyway. So this song is about asking for love when sad which is pretty hard to do when everything should be great and fun in the summertime.”

Tender acoustics and ethereal vocals open the track, the title-referencing refrain lounging with a lazy-day allure. Psychedelic guitar textures peek in and out, as the one-minute turn approaches. “How can we be like the others?” Mikkelsen asks in this sequence, followed by a subtle rhythmic pulse. The finale fuses trickling guitar effects with the calming acoustical backbone, firmly resonating into its lush conclusion.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2022’ Spotify playlist.
