Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Dash Hammerstein charms with on his new track “Soldier.” The responsive vocal backing makes for a melodic engagement amidst the narrative retrospection of the verses, reminding fondly of Squeeze and Ocean Colour Scene as the vocals assume a soulful quality.
The “rations and reasons,” hook is especially reminiscent of Squeeze, and quite replay-inducing to boot, with the twangy guitar additions, militant drum-beat, and suave vocal assurance. Military boots! Military glam! In any case/operation, “Soldier” is a fun, melodic success from Dash Hammerstein.
