Melding hazy psychedelic jangles and an Americana folk heart, “Sentimental Heart Attack” is a catching new single from Quichenight, the project of Nashville songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Brett Rosenberg. The project’s debut caught our ears back in 2011 for its fantastic songwriting, and a decade-and-a-half later the strong songwriting persists.
Coming via the upcoming album Waterville & Surf, the excellent “Sentimental Heart Attack” is described by Rosenberg as a “nostalgic tune about young love in Upstate New York circa 1996.” “She came to me a portrait of my false reality,” his vocals open alongside those dueling guitar layers and bouncy bass line. Added, hypnotic vocal layers complement the “I can’t go back” laments, admitting to be “running out of time” as the title-bearing hook emerges: “Oh sentimental heart attack, I’m gonna make you mine.” “Sentimental Heart Attack” is a delectable slice of timeless-sounding folk-rock that has us fully anticipating Waterville & Surf.
