A standout hip-hop album from D.C.-based artist Ego.0ff, Thin the Herd consumes with its diversely effective production and powerful vocal showings.

“We Shine” is melodic ear candy. The lead refrain — “I had a dream that we could be free,” — enamors amidst heart-tugging strings, tender guitar twangs, and soulful vocal sample snippets. The production on the track glistens with replay-inducing allure, and is enjoyably representative of Ego.0ff’s more pop-centric chops.

Immediately following, “Keep it 100” switches tone with a more furious angst. The anxious piano shimmer and intensely escalating vocal lead concoct ample vigor, especially upon the “I’m a god of war,” lyrical sequence, which showcases a tremendously precise vocal performance. “We Shine” and “Keep it 100” is an eclectic, captivating one-two punch that exemplifies the artist’s melodic, tonally eclectic approach, enjoyably consistent throughout the album.
