Viridian – “Slowly / Letting Go”

/

“Slowly / Letting Go” is a serenely gripping track from Viridian, a Vancouver-based project comprising Michael Di Spirito and Danielle Davie. They formed the act six years ago, at the age of 17, and have been developing their sound since with fantastic results. Their aesthetic today is thoroughly moving, concocting a dreamily atmospheric vein of rock with commendable tonal variety.

Davie’s lush vocal entrancement and Di Spirito’s resonating guitar work converge for memorable results throughout the track. The initial lyrics cast a meditative feeling, echoing slow breaths as the progression moves steadily into electric guitar tones and twinkling keys past the two-minute turn. The final section stylishly accomplishes a more electronic-tinted feeling, with the snap-laden percussion and snippet-driven vocal usage concocting atmospheric intrigue. “Slowly / Letting Go” is a standout from Viridian.

They also recently released “The Embrace” — and are prepping their debut album to release later this year.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2022’ Spotify playlist.
