Grrrl Toy – “Bite!”

/

Described as “a chaotic homage to classic rock,” “Bite” is a new single from Grrrl Toy. The San Antonio-based project formed as a solo act in July, and has since expanded to a full band alongside Rhyma Castillo’s captivating vocal lead. The band has an EP, Merrie Lane, releasing next summer.

Exhilarating guitar-forward expansiveness around the 50-second mark excites into the lusher vocal emergence thereafter, reminding fondly of Snail Mail. The resonating “want you take a bite,” vocal refrain exudes a spirited, infectious appeal, traversing into a finale that meshes jangly guitar fun with rousing vocals. “Bite!” has me fully anticipating Grrrl Toy’s forthcoming EP.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2022’ Spotify playlist.
