Will & the Mood – “That’s a Lie”

/

A moving and dreamy folk composition inspired by “the power of nature, the song writing process and transcendental dreams,” “That’s a Lie” is a riveting new track from Will & the Mood. The Melbourne-based project comprises Will Sacre (vocals, guitar, keys) and Maui Moody (guitar, bass, synth). “That’s a Lie” represents the first single from the duo’s debut EP, releasing in 2023.

A poised rhythm section and gentle acoustic pulses build to a cathartic vocal relief — expressing “that’s all I need,” amidst contemplation of simpler things. As the track was recorded in “a beach shack in between surfs,” it’s apt how evident the thematic inspiration is for nature and simplicity’s beauty. When music, good times, and the open sea are open for exploring, there’s a sense of gratitude and catharsis, indeed. A dash of woodwind adds a graceful quality to the sophisticated production, already excelling.

The track also features additional recording and production by Patrick Ryan (Cantrips, Dune Castle). Fabian Hunter (Chube Screamer, Girlatones, China Beach) is on drums. Snowy Liam Halliwell (Ocean Party, Snowy Band) provides mixing and mastering.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2022’ Spotify playlist.
