Beachdust – “Ghost Dance”

/

Concocting a laid-back pull that bridges serene electronica with a funk-tinged rhythm section, “Ghost Dance” is the latest single from Beachdust, the solo project of California native Anthony Geovanny. An enveloping spacey synth pad weaves alongside a steady percussive pulse, halting as a playful synth line emerges. This synth line intertwines with another for an infectious allure as the vocals enter, reflecting “so this is life, wishing on stars that pass you by.”

The lyrical sentiments — viewing a future with no light in one’s eyes, and when hope seems to fade — seems to evoke the dance of life and death itself, punctuated by the title-touting chill in the track’s final minute. A more ardent vocal presence also shows here, ending the track with a passionate, invigorating finesse.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.
