“Bask” shows continued success from Damn Stargazers, first catching our ears with the American southwest-inspired instrumental rocker “Terra” last summer. The project from Dan Morrell ascends into spacey, synth-inclined heights with “Bask,” whose twinkling keys and lush synth-based caressing finds inspiration from “sun-soaked afternoons during a solo writing road trip this past summer where I produced a series of songs while traveling,” Morrell says.

The glistening keys and warming bass pulses are accompanied by sharply melodic guitar twangs. Throughout, a mixture of live instrumentation and thoughtful samples converge to produce a sound abundant in starry-eyed wonderment. Numerous moments excel with seamless additions, like the lush layering of synth pads past the one-minute turn, and the eventual fade into solely keys, synths, and guitars as the rhythms fade in the track’s conclusion. “Bask” continues to showcase Damn Stargazers as a project fully capable of stirring atmospheric allure.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2023’ Spotify playlist.
