Exuding a classic pop jangle with hints of The Last Shadow Puppets, “Bad News (Do Better)” is the debut single from Heart Foundation, a London-based project comprising brothers Sam and Luke Pickering.

Sam’s lockdown-era recordings gave way to the project forming in 2022, with this track representing their introduction to the world. Sam’s hooky, heartfelt songwriting and Luke’s standout production combine for a winning track, bolstered in the conclusion by yearning string accompaniments and rousing guitar crunches alike.

Gentle acoustics and gentle keys craft a gentle enamoring to start, with warming vocals traversing into a playfully melodic glistening approaching the second minute. “My darling, my sweetheart, my pumpkin, my pretty,” the vocals tempt, eventually culminating in a gorgeous assortments of strings and chirpy orchestral effects. An impactful and melodic treat, “Bad News (Do Better)” is a quality debut. Look for other singles from the duo to arrive throughout the year.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2023’ Spotify playlist.
