Marc Rangel – “Song Cry”

/

A stylish track that intertwines brooding and remorse amidst its R&B-inclined pop sound, “Song Cry” is a recent track from Los Angeles-based artist Marc Rangel. Lyrics reference secrets and “your first mistake,” in recounting realizations of a bond gone awry, culminating in a sense of confidence — “never gonna play second fiddle, I’m not gonna be caught in the middle.”

“I wrote this song about a situationship I was in where I found out he had an entire secret long term relationship behind my back,” Rangel says. Lyrics lament in stating “guess I was only a side piece,” in driving to the title-touting hook, with the “gonna make the song cry,” vocal hooking alongside the buzzing synths and enthusiastic vocal backings. “Song Cry” succeeds in a R&B/pop hybrid that meshes well with gripping lyrics that will prove relatable to anyone who has experienced a relationship with trust issues.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2023’ Spotify playlist.
