Brittain Ashford – “Hold On Tight”

/

“Hold On Tight” is exemplary of the stirring songwriting from Brittain Ashford, an artist originally from Seattle and presently based in Brooklyn. From the upcoming album Trotter (out May 19th via Misra Records), the track features retrospective lyricism that compels amidst a warming guitar-driven backing — exuding a sound reminiscent of Snail Mail’s more understated works.

Ashford describes the forthcoming album as centering around “finality and making regrettable decisions.” “Hold On Tight” touts a sense of contemplative retrospection — “my entire life, tried to do it right, but I fuck it up completely.” Even so, there’s a satiating mellowness in the amiable vocals and Drew Cooper’s warming guitar tones, with the “I just wanted you to hold on tight,” enticing replays with its melodic glow. I’m firmly anticipating the May release of Trotter.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.
