Linuss – “Pop Rocks”

/

From the upcoming full-length Signs, “Pop Rocks” is another success from Linuss, the Los Angeles-based artist who caught our ears in February with the jangly “Make Me.”

Described as a track “about profusely begging a partner’s forgiveness for a small mistake,” “Pop Rocks” grows from an eerie synth-laden twinkling into an accessible offering of twangy guitars and laid-back vocals. The peppy guitars and responsive percussion shine into the “I’ll make it up to you,” vocal admittance, expressing a series of apologetic promises thereafter. The heartfelt, sincere chorus enamors throughout, and is particularly well bolstered by icy synths approaching the three-minute mark. “Pop Rocks” delivers an infectious yet emotively alluring sound.

Linuss continues: “The lyrics explore the deep seated fear of abandonment we develop in childhood, associating sweet and innocent pleasures with unwitting infidelity in the eyes of someone who lacks the capacity to trust.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.
