Todd & Karen – “Blackpool Lights”

/

Capturing the spirited joy of undertaking an adventure to one’s beloved locale, “Blackpool Lights” is an enamoring new single from Todd & Karen, a Norwegian-Irish duo comprising Øyvind Berge and Ina Verdi-Ruckstuhl. Representing their fourth single, “Blackpool Lights” is described by the duo as “our love letter to England from two knobheads across the North Sea.”

Their adoration for the setting is evidenced directly — “I admit it’s not like Paris or Venice or Florence…” the vocals admit, “but it’s what we have.” The bouncy piano and eventual psych-friendly vocals flourish with a weightlessly melodic charm, invoking a ’60s pop nostalgia with the effervescent and playful vocals, guitar twangs, and symphonic pop elements.

“Blackpool Lights” proves winning in its lyrical embrace of being “grateful for what you have,” alongside a hooky classic pop production.
