Push Ups – “Rosary”

///

Nostalgic alt-rocker “Rosary” is a melodic new single from Push Ups, touting inspirations like At the Drive-In, the Get Up Kids, and Elliott Smith. The NYC-based project’s background is ambiguous, though the hooky rock delivery of “Rosary” is undeniable.

“You say you’re fading away,” the soft vocals start amidst a ferocious guitar-driven fervency. “Hold on to your rosary,” the vocals let out. “I’ll keep you close to me.” The understated vocal presence and revved-up throwback guitar tones converge for a delectably hooky sound throughout. “Rosary” is a blast from the past, transporting with comfort and precision into a mid-’90s rock attitude, also reminding me of The Wrens and Matthew Good Band.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
