TEEN PRIME – ‘no. 7’

//

Berlin-based project TEEN PRIME showcase a creative instrumental rock prowess on their new album no. 7, featuring intriguing interplay between guitars and percussion. Initially formed as the solo project of guitarist Sebastian Fäth, TEEN PRIME now includes drummer Jörg A. Schneider. The duo impress with an unpredictable, stream-of-conscious feeling throughout the album, which evokes alt-rock and ’90s nostalgia in its excitable guitar tones and accompanying brisk percussion.

Alongside mixing/mastering from Peter Körfer, the duo of Fäth and Schneider excel with a fun energy throughout. “pockets of reason” traverses from salesman-type vocal samples into excitable guitar murmurs, further accompanied by charismatic percussive spells with jazzy inclinations. An added guitar layer past the first minute furthers the hypnotic swell. In the more avant-garde realm, “dad jokes” weaves semi-discordant guitar twangs amidst sporadic percussive excitement; the result is fascinating and successful, which describes this album aptly as a whole.

“pockets of reason” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
