Wotts – “blue”

/

A lush pop delight befitting of its typically chilled-out color, “blue” is the latest single from Canadian duo Wotts. Impressing previously with singles “LEMONADE” and “NO TAKE BACKS,” “blue” furthers the project’s knack for luxuriously hook pop constructions.

Marking the second release from their upcoming EP, garden, “blue” enamors with its perky keys and glistening orchestral additions. Light strings and airy vocals combine for a scenic, beach-friendly sound. Wotts took inspiration from fellow Canadian band Men I Trust, in particular, while noting that the track’s theme is “a reminder that sometimes you have to trust the path you’re on.”

References to “blue birds singing around me,” is complemented by birds chirping and twinkling keys. A sort of whimsical, morning-time vibe is captured via the forward-looking lyrics. The bright strings infuse an added component to the tender guitars and amiable vocals, bolstering a weightless-sounding production with ample melodic appeal.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
