Colleen Rennison – “I Do”

//

A dreamy, soulful adoration glows throughout the stellar single “I Do,” the latest from Vancouver-based artist Colleen Rennison. Its production excelling with a range of riveting string arrangements and invigorating guitar tones alike, “I Do” espouses “be with you,” yearning amidst impassioned vocals and climactic structural rise. The feeling of “having a summer crush,” is conveyed with gripping, passionate energy and vibrantly eclectic tonal prowess.

The introduction shows its Motown influence with the gorgeous strings, backing vocals, and steady bass line. The vocals enthrall with melodic variety, growing from soulful yearning into the “don’t you want some sweet romance?” rise, fully embracing a symphonic rock-forward illumination. Ardent vocal work is particularly impressive in the final minute. Cumulatively, the smitten lyrics and vocal passion flourish with the rousing guitars and strings, making for a captivating success throughout.

“I Do” represents the second single from Rennison’s upcoming album Persephone, set for release later this year.

Rennison elaborates on the track:

“I wanted to capture the excitement and delicious agony of being enamoured with someone and daydreaming about them to the point of almost insanity. I woke up in the middle of the night and wrote the chorus. I’d been listening to a lot of The Temptations and The Supremes and had been crushing on a graffiti writer who’s name I kept seeing everywhere, hence the line: ‘every time I see your name/ I seem to hear sweet refrains.'”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
