DYAN – “Dark Streets”

/

With its brassy wavering and moody guitar spells, “Dark Streets” crafts a nocturnal atmospheric engrossment throughout. The effort comes via DYAN, the solo project of Alexis Marsh.

“Will you hang onto me?” Marsh asks, following a sequence contemplating on how the weight of the future can weigh on one’s present. Pulsing guitars fade into a bass-fronted minimalism here. A tonal darkening aptly accompanies the “dark streets,” vocal, as jangling guitars form a captivating undercurrent. The finale stirs with spacey synth arps, intertwining gorgeously with the vocals and murky rhythms. “Dark Streets” is a stylish, melodic tour-de-force from DYAN.

Marsh elaborates on the track: “This is a song about wanting to connect with someone in a city, having the city’s authorities inadvertently suppress the chances for human connection through the administration of policies intended to make streets safer – it’s about what we lose when we only prioritize one version of security.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
