Katrina Weissman – “Different Night”

/

Los Angeles-based artist Katrina Weissman is set to release several singles this year, collectively “unfolding a brutal and evolving philosophy on heartbreak and fear.” Influenced by artists such as Mazzy Star, Mitski, and Phoebe Bridgers, Weissman’s songwriting proves riveting with an intimately nostalgic character.

In her latest single, “Different Night,” Weissman presents a lushly haunting sound, tackling the impact of “fleeting love” and the bittersweet nature of life’s happiest moments. The hazy, lush guitar tones take inspiration from ’90s dream-pop, accompanied by serene vocals and introspective lyrics. Twinkling keys upon the “I want you to feel bad,” sequence adds beautifully alongside the subdued guitars. Weissman’s music evokes ample emotion, leaving an enduring impression.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
