Soft Cheese – “Ballet”

//

“Ballet” is an invigorating and dynamic rock success from Soft Cheese, a four-piece based in Portland, Oregon. First catching our ears in 2021 with the single “Bad News,” Soft Cheese again deliver a captivating sound with an embrace for ’90s rock and grunge.

Since “Bad News,” the band has added a second guitarist in Conner O’Shea, who lends an atmospheric power to “Ballet” with the backing tonal guitars. The track’s lyrics and music aim to “spin the listener out of control,” and does so successfully from the dazed, twangy verses into the distortion-heavy embrace of the chorus. The laid-back, bass-laden chugging and raucously inviting swells contrast with momentum and perpetual intrigue. Blistering guitar-driven ardency caps off this firmly resonating success from Soft Cheese.

“Ballet” represents the second single from Soft Cheese’s new album Dream Body, streaming below:

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
