bluetrails – “Oversoul”

//

A lushly emotive folktronica showcase from New York-based artist bluetrails, “Oversoul” infuses haunting vocal harmonies alongside a delicately evolving production.

Layered vocals assemble gorgeously, with the lead emerging amidst gentle bass and backing wordless effects. Soft guitar jangles intertwine, building to a chilling expanse around the three-minute mark, where hints of strings combine with the climactic vocals for a powerful result. Aesthetically sounding like a cross of Grizzly Bear and Sufjan Stevens, “Oversoul” is a standout showing from bluetrails.

bluetrails elaborates: “I wrote this song after my grandfather’s death during covid. I was alone, in nature, trying to reason through things and “understand it all.” I hope you enjoy this little record of that experience.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.
