An excellent new mix from Mark Saunders of the previously featured “We Run” from Reduction in Force, this production delights in its expanded, atmospheric sound. While the original fuses understated synths and blaring guitars in leading up to Mike Mills’ melodic delivery, Saunders’ mix revels in an electronic-friendly simmering.
Spacey synth tones and a bouncy post-punk guitar jangling coexist wonderfully, especially affecting around the three-minute turn, where soaring accounts of “sleepless nights” and enduring battles meld heightened emotion with fantastic guitar/synth interplay. The ensuing “I will survive” lyrical catharsis is particularly resonant in this mix, followed by a mixture of soaring guitars and jangly steadiness alike. Both the original “We Run” and this newest mix from Mark Saunders are strongly recommended.
