teasea – “Lips”

/

Traversing into a rousing refrain with ’90s alt-rock spirit, “Lips” is a new single from teasea, the Brooklyn-based project of multi-instrumentalist Tom Criblez. The track comes via an upcoming LP. The track released under Criblez’ own label Ambient Pasta, which he runs with his brother and best friend, Dan Criblez and Mimmo.

“What are you waiting for?” the soaring vocals ask in the heady hook, bolstered by delectably twangy guitars for a dreamy immersion. A seamless transition occurs back into the more understated guitar-led chugging within the verses, as the lyrics convey a mutual sort of craziness, in an affectionate sense. The chorus’ role as “wake up calls” proves especially poignant, coinciding alongside an uptick in intensity. I’m certainly anticipating the act’s upcoming album.

Per the artist: “The song was written this past spring as a reflection and grieving process of a meaningful relationship. The lyrics reflect streams of consciousness along with a pre-chorus/chorus filled with wake up calls and reassurance.”

“Lips” was mixed by Rain Johannes of Goose Room and mastered by Anna Frick of Ally Sound.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.
