Aisle Five – “Evil Eye”

/

Building from initial contemplation into expressive rock invigoration, “Evil Eye” is a new single from Chicago-based band Aisle Five. The five-piece formed in September 2022 and comprises five students from Columbia College in Chicago, all with different backgrounds in music. “Evil Eye” consumes with an escalating rock character, amidst themes reminding of negative influences and uncertainty within a relationship.

Flickering guitar jangles lead a lush beginning, bursting into blasts of guitars prior to the debonair vocal styling. Bustling bass movement complement enjoyably here, as guitars assume a reflective quality upon the vocals’ emotive ascension. “I wish I knew you like that,” they let out into the rousing chorus, emitting “I’m stuck on landslide, I don’t know why,” into the title-touting soaring. “Evil Eye” is a gripping success, enamoring in both its contemplative verses and ardent culmination.

Aisle Five comprises lead singer Izzie Rutledge, guitarists Malcolm Filichia and Simon Shah, bassist Meriah Fearon, and drummer Ethan Reinbach. “Evil Eyes” was recorded at Electrical Audio by Johnny Bear and Joey Apter.
