Casey Urban – “Favorite Lover”

/

An eerie, spacey pop appeal lingers throughout “Favorite Lover,” a new single from New York-based artist Casey Urban. The lyrics cast a self-empowering flair, described as “about being your own biggest fan.” The repeating ethos — “you can be your favorite lover,” — plays with a mantra-like effect alongside the playful bass bounces and reflective key bounces. The stutter-y “pretty,” effect builds with infectious intrigue into the title-touting refrain, complemented by a stellar organ line fit for Halloween haunts.

Reverbed rhythmic effects at the mid-point combine with the debonair verses for further engrossment, driving into a dazzling conclusion with a glistening spacey arpeggio, buzzing bass, and one final creepy organ-laden send-off. “Favorite Lover” is a stylish pop success from Casey Urban, impressing with a balance of hookiness and dark pop fascination.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
