Jack Xander – “Garbage Barge”

//

“Garbage Barge” is a gorgeously unfolding single from Los Angeles-based artist Jack Xander, who notes that the effort was “inspired by and recorded in the misty lagoons of Floripa, Brazil.” A riveting soundscape is on display, spanning from eerie folk ruminations to dark chamber-pop intrigue.

A calming vocal presence finds solace alongside understated strings and nostalgic guitar pulses. “I smoked and I forgot,” the vocals admit, furthering the hypnotic engrossment. The cinematic string arrangements are chilling throughout, within both the sparser pulsations and second-half rhythmic accompaniments.

Pitch-altering vocals past the first minute kickstart an otherworldly expanse, as twinkling keys and ascending vocals craft a unique momentum. “Garbage Barge” is an inventive, atmospherically meditative stroke of brilliance from Jack Xander.

The track also releases alongside a captivating music video, directed by filmmaker Noah Zielinski:

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
