Rocket Kings – “She’s Going to Mars”

/

“She’s Going to Mars” is a power-pop earworm Rocket Kings, a band from Reading, UK. “She’s going to Mars,” the steady vocals emit alongside chirpy guitar pulses, as responsive vocals enamor with a higher-pitched whimsy. Playful guitars complement space-set lyrics — “zero gravity, she’s a cosmic star,” — into the chorus’ replay-inducing vibrancy. The “one giant leap,” bridge continues the shimmering, amiable qualities into the “she’s going to Mars,” hook.

The band, formed in 2016, wrote the track as a follow-up of sorts to a song on their previous album, Everyday Adventures. “Bex is an astronaut!” member Dave Stewart says of fellow member Bex Crossland. Stewart elaborates further:

“On our previous album, ‘Everyday Adventures’, there was a song called ‘Space Camp’, which I wrote about Bex’s actual visit to NASA’s US Space and Rocket Centre, where she participated in astronaut training. So on this album, we came up with ‘She’s Going to Mars’ about what Bex did next! The backing vocals on the song are actually some of the lyrics from the original ‘Space Camp’ song.”

“She’s Going to Mars” is one of many highlights from the band’s sophomore album, Paving the Way, which is a showcase of the band’s polished, hooky rock songwriting. Stewart produced the album alongside Josh McCrohan at Creative Control Studio in Bracknell. Stream it below:
