Rookie Move – “Skeletons”

/

Breezy pop charmer “Skeletons” comes via Florida-based artist Rookie Move, who weaves playful synths, warbled guitars, and an overall soulful effervescence alongside lyrics written “from the perspective of a younger version of myself.”

The artist continues: “It’s about that phenomenon when you’re so infatuated with a new person that you start changing your behavior and turning into an unrecognizable version of yourself. Sometimes, you get so wrapped up in that person that you end up revealing the skeletons in your closet earlier than you may have wanted.”

“Something about you,” the opening croon conveys with smitten qualities, as pulsating synths and mellow bass complement the multiple vocal layers. Twangy guitars complement introspections on “this version of me,” as a self-analysis commences into the thumping rhythms approacing the two-minute turn, punctuated by a funky bass line and stutter-y vocal effects. “Skeletons” is a hooky, heartfelt pop success from Rookie Move.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
