ok jolson – “800 club”

//

A late-night psych-pop appeal lingers throughout “800 club,” the latest single from NYC-based artist ok jolson. Nocturnal synth flashes and steady percussion are joined by an initially slight bass line, which swells in movement as various textural flourishes emerge. Twangy guitars and twinkling keys intertwine thereafter for a gorgeous pre-vocal setting, joined seamlessly by the artist’s calming vocal tone.

The mid-point dazzles with the vocals’ more soaring inflection alongside the twangy guitars and keys, casting a balance of hooky and meditative that lends well to the dreamy, immersive soundscape. A soaring guitar line at the three-minute turn bolsters the psychedelic charisma, satisfyingly capping off this stellar success from ok jolson.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Psychedelic Pop.
