Rohith Shaker – “These Walls”

/

Exuding a vintage orchestral-laden pop mystique, “These Walls” is a fantastic new single from Rohith Shaker, a Phoenix-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. “Can I go back to how I was before?” Shaker’s debonair vocals ask, leading into a heartrending expanse: “So painful, these walls, that I built in memory of those I love.” An orchestral flourish follows, reminding stirringly of The Last Shadow Puppets.

The added guitar tones during the begrudging “I’ll be fine,” line enamor, as does the momentum-filled orchestration that follows. The standout production drives into a bursting orchestral grandiosity at mid-point, then exuding a more meditative glow in its finale, which features field recordings in its delectably submerged experimentalism. “These Walls” is a riveting showcase in songwriting and production from Rohith Shaker.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
