Midheaven – “Heaven”

//

Spanning from dreamy, spacious contemplation to heady rock textures, “Heaven” is the captivating debut single from Los Angeles-based duo Midheaven. Comprising creative and romantic partners Sarah Eiseman and Andy DeLuca, the project excels with its atmospheric sound, touching on ’90s shoegaze and alt-rock nostalgia — reminding of a cross between Spiritualized and Mazzy Star.

Its lyrics written about the partners’ love for each other, “Heaven” presents a gripping allure. Eiseman’s vocals maintain a lushly engrossing consistency throughout, dazzling initially with a serene charm alongside a thickly reveberating bass line and chiming guitar frolicking. The ensuing liftoff into more forceful percussion hooks firmly, reminiscent of Wolf Alice. With its palpable atmospheric strengths and dynamic tonal range, “Heaven” marks an enchanting success of a debut from Midheaven.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
