Half Tail – “Coyotes”

/

A slice of Americana-forward rock from Seattle-based band Half Tail, “Coyotes” is a stirring success in its descriptive lyrics and escalating guitar work. Lyrical imagery of night-driving through the snowfall, as coyotes howl, excels into a soaring vocal howl as twangy guitars surround, with shades of The National evident in the verses. The debonair verses and ensuing howl make for a climatic allure throughout, derived from personal inspiration.

Per the band, the track “tells the true story of when I was a kid riding in the car with my mom. It was late at night on a snowy country highway when we suddenly hit a deer and pulled over on the side of the road. Besides us and the deer, the only other sound was the coyotes that seemed to be completely surrounding us.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
