Alma Jette – “Demons”

//

“Demons” is a gorgeous new single from Alma Jette, the project of Mary Bryce. The stirring production conjures a symphonic vein of soaring folk with shades of Weyes Blood and Tennis. The track represents the debut single from Alma Jette’s upcoming album, I Found A Reason, crafted alongside co-writer, guitarist, and producer Jake Miles. Themes of love and heartrending emotion are conveyed, stemming from the creative and romantic relationship that arose between Bryce and Miles.

Solemn acoustics and piano complement vocals that admit to personal demons, relatable and caressing. Ensuing imagery of dancing in the kitchen to Smokey Robinson’s “Ooo Baby Baby,” while being smitten in love, are indicative of ever-spanning human emotions — from the haunting lurching of personal demons, to the celebration of a love burning and strong. Bryce’s magnetic vocal dynamics, from folk-forward serenity into the ascending passion, are gripping throughout. Strings creep in gorgeously during the “lightens up the load,” reflections. “Demons” is an impactful success from Alma Jette, whose album we’re certainly anticipating.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk.
